cycnoches-jumbo-copper-warszewiczii-cooperi
Cycnoches Jumbo Copper (warszewiczii × cooperi)
*Note: Most of this batch are producing female flowers, which will be the larger flowers, and usually a 2 to 3-flower count. This is atypical, as usually they produce male flowers, so you can expect the next round to be males. The good news is the female flowers are much more fragrant than the males!

Native to tropical America—from southern Mexico to Brazil and Bolivia—this genus typically grows in warm, moist, open-canopy forests or as terrestrials on decaying logs.

This is a primary hybrid between two striking Cycnoches species: the large, wonderfully fragrant Cyc. warszewiczii and the colorful Cyc. cooperi. The result is a beautiful range of flower colors, from golden yellow to copper.

These plants produce pendulous spikes with mostly male flowers, though occasionally, fewer but larger female flowers may appear. While bright light is thought to encourage female blooms, we’ve seen both flower types on the same plant.

Note: It’s normal for the foliage to yellow and drop during or just after blooming. New growth typically follows soon after from the base of the cane.
